What is Ozone?

Ozone: noun /’ō,zōn/: a colorless gas with a pungent odor and powerful oxidizing properties. Ozone (O3) or "Active Oxygen" is formed naturally from Oxygen (O2) and an electric discharge or exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

How does it clean?

O2  -> O3, The third molecule gained is unstable and can attach itself to, and kill, the fungus and bacteria that cause skin/nail infection and the horrific smells our shoes and gear can produce. When odors, bacteria or viruses make contact with ozone, their chemical structure is changed to less odorous compounds. As more ozone attacks the remaining compounds, the odor is eventually destroyed. This process is called oxidation. Ozone essentially reverts back to oxygen after it is used. This makes it a very environmentally friendly oxidant.
